Re: Hardware 3D Support

hi,

(II) I810(0): direct rendering: Enabled
But the output of "$ glxinfo | grep rendering" is:
direct rendering: No

It seems that DRI for i810 is currently broken (something to do with the
2.6.16 kernel.) :-(

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=359328
do you think that the error i am seeing is a part/consequence of this
bug or is it something else? i'd go with the latter...

drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID pci:0000:00:02.0
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 7, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 7
drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports pci:0000:00:02.0
(II) I810(0): [drm] loaded kernel module for "i915" driver
(II) I810(0): [drm] DRM interface version 1.2
(II) I810(0): [drm] created "i915" driver at busid "pci:0000:00:02.0"
(II) I810(0): [drm] added 8192 byte SAREA at 0xe007d000
(II) I810(0): [drm] mapped SAREA 0xe007d000 to 0xb785c000
(II) I810(0): [drm] framebuffer handle = 0xd8020000
(II) I810(0): [drm] added 1 reserved context for kernel
(EE) I810(0): [dri] I830DRIScreenInit failed because of a version mismatch.
[dri] i915 kernel module version is 1.1.0 but version 1.4 or greater is
needed.
[dri] Disabling DRI.

this is fresh etch install, no 6.9->7.0 upgrade. i also use kernel
2.6.15 (debian source) with some minor changes. i have both i830 and
i915 modules. depending on which one of these i use (it's possible to
use both with intel 845G graphics card) i get the same error message
just with different 'module version is x.y.z' part of the text.

i tried to do the changes suggested in
http://wiki.debian.org/Xorg69To7
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=359328
i.e., essentially replacing old libs in /usr/lib/dri by the newer ones from dri.freedesktop.org, but nothing has changed.

any hints what to do with this? the direct rendering is not that
important for me at the moment, but it's likely to change...

thanks for any hints. regards,
