Which doc? The Debian Installation Guide has some instructions:

The original doc is here: http://d-i.pascal.at/ . The files required for 
booting from a USB stick can be found in the 
|main/installer-i386/current/images 
<ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/sarge/main/installer-i386/current/images>| 
directory of the Debian distribution 
(ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/sarge/main/installer-i386/current/images). 
It worked for me.
