ALSA la vista problems...
Hello everyone,
I would like to ask your help in the following situation.
I installed Sarge on my laptop, which has an atiixp sound chipset on board.
After installation all sound was muted, including pc speaker and of
course the soundcard.
Running alsaconf, I could see my card, although I got an error -13, no
soundcard detected at the end of the process.
Here let me note, that I get a silly atiixp modem as well in lspci,
where this is not true, I dont have such a modem, ALSA disabled it and
put a lower priority on the alsa-base file, in etc/modutils. But still
no sound. I think this has to do with some support they tried to
insert to the alsas modules or something like that.
ANyways, running alsamixer, or any mixer did not help, and I am member
of the audio group of course.
Looking through forums did not help much, I got more confused I think.
Therefore, I visited the ALSA webpage where my chipset is supported
and tried to follow the instructions from there.
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=ATI&card=ATI-IXP+southbridge+AC97+audio.&chip=IXP+SB150%2C+IXP+SB200%2C+IXP+SB250%2C+IXP+SB300%2C+IXP+SB400&module=atiixp
Downloaded alsa-driver, alsa-lib and utils and tried to make configure
but it always exits with compile error. ( I think it has to do with
looking in /usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver/acore for files which are not
there, although extraction of files went smoothly).
Now to the weird part:
After doing the above, of course sound was not working still, I run
alsaconf and it does not detect the soundcard at all. Furthermore, the
pc speaker is umuted !!!
I also playd with the alsa service, enabling it or disabling it on
startup but still no difference.
Can anyone please point me in the correct direction?
I am confused and I dont kno where to look anymore.
Sorry for the long post, any help appreciated greatly.
Cheers,
LefTy
