You possibly need a custom kernel to get the RAID controller installed
and recognised. I've seen at least one person publish details of how
they did this. Alternatively, you could try using the Etch/testing
installer - follow links from http://cdimage.debian.org. 

A work colleague has got Debian onto his brand new Dell but I'm fairly
sure he used Debian testing to do it.
