hello list,

i installed a 'non-free' driver from the nvidia website in kernel
2.6.8-2-386.
[sh /home/steef/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8756-pkg1.run]

dmesg gives me the following unwholesome message:

steef@debian:~$ dmesg | grep nv
nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.

what evil, if any, can come out of this installation?

Taints it with P for Proprietary options. You cannot use any debugging output from that kernel with the kernel developers and not expect them to dismiss it as a tainted kernel.

hi paul,

got rid of the nvidia-driver. like freesoftware more than 3D.

r.,
