dpkg-divert: mismatch on package when removing `diversion of
/usr/share/pixmaps/splash/gnome-splash.png
Hi - How can I fix this?
I'm trying to apt-get dist-upgrade a 2003/November Debian Unstable
system to current Stable.
When I did apt-get dist-upgrade, it failed, and said do "apt-get -f
install"
After doing that several times, I'm continuing to get this error.
Google on gnome-splash.png dpkg-divert
turns up 22 items, including 2 Debian bug reports about this, but I saw
no resolution.

What do I need to do to fix this so I can continue with the
dist-upgrade?
I guessed that if I removed the file referred to that might enable
progress, but no.
After removing the file, I still get the same error.
Below is:
1) removing the file,
2) apt-get -f install ;; Still get's the same error
