For broadband, the best solution is to use an ethernet ADSL modem rather
than a USB one. It sound as though you would want a combined wifi
modem/router.
Samba provides a mixed Linux/Windows network, including printing from
your Windoze laptop to your Linux box's printer. You need to setup IP
connectivity first with your wifi router - then set up Samba. I recently
posted some notes I made when I set up Samba at

You can also set up and IMAP server on your Debian box so that you can
manage you emails from either the main box or a Linux laptop (provided
that your main box is switched on) - see

sure if this would work as well on a Windows laptop though.
