Hi Judith,
there are a few ways to find stuff.
1) install apt-file, run apt-file search libstdc++  or similar
(this is a way to search packages.debian.org, offline, and is thus more
convient and quicker)
2) check snapshot.debian.net site for file.
this is an 'unofficial' repository for older debs
3) ask here
4) ask on irc.debian.org on #debian
