i believe that udev provides hotplug. so if you want to use udev, then
you dont need (and shouldnt have) hotplug.

you may need to craft a udev rule for your palm, depending on what
device was created under /dev/ and what the userspace program
(jpilot/pilot-link) is looking for.

google for "writing udev rules" for a good tutorial.
