problem with snapshot.debian.net

Hi all,
I need to retrieve an older version of a package from unstable, which is not in sarge (plib1.8.4-dev_1.8.4-1_i386.deb).

I tried to get it from snapshot.debian.net, but while it says packages since 2005/03/13 are available, I couldn't access packages earlier than 2005/11/01, and couldn't grab versions earlier than 1.8.4-2 (current is 1.8.4-3).

I tried the following methods:

- use the search form. Only source packages seem to be available by this method, but what's worse, if I try and follow the link to version 1.8.4-1, I get a "403 Forbidden" error.

- insert "deb http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/YYYY/MM/DD/debian unstable main contrib non-free" in my sources list, as suggested. I've tried several values for "YYYY/MM/DD", but with any one earlier than "2005/11/01", I get a "403 Forbidden" error on "apt-get update".

- access http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/YYYY/MM/DD/debian directly with the browser. The 2005 directory contains 10, 11 and 12, but while 11 and 12 seem ok, trying to access 10/01 to 10/26 results in a "404 Not Found" error, while 10/27 to 10/31 results in "403 Forbidden".

In fact, the latter two also yield different results from each other, and I don't know why: - while the browser gets "404 Not Found" for 10/01 to 10/26 and "403 Forbidden" for 10/27 to 10/31, "apt-get update" always says "403 Forbidden". - while the 11/01 to 11/08 directories contain version 1.8.4-2 and later ones contain version 1.8.4-3, "apt-cache search" always says 1.8.4-3.

Am I doing anything wrong? Is snapshot.debian.net not working correctly (will it be repaired)? Is there any other place where I could retrieve the package? Anybody has it on his/her system and can send it to me?

For those who want to know, here's why I need that specific version:
I've tried to upgrade from torcs 1.2.3 (that I hand-installed some time ago, as there's no version in sarge) to 1.2.4, unfortunately the C++ migration happened in between, so the new version depends on plib1.8.4c2 instead of plib1.8.4 (which I downloaded with torcs), and installing that package would bring a lot of unstable packages with it, that I don't want. Thus I'm trying to rebuild the source package against sarge, which I want to do anyway since I'd like to do some hacking on it. Unfortunately that requires plib1.8.4-dev, which I did *not* download, and versions from 1.8.4-2 on depend on plib1.8.4c2 as well, so I'm stuck.

Thanks everybody
 Gerardo
