Tried - made no difference.
Gmail POP is bust:

mailbox will seem empty.
[01:37:49] POP3> STAT
[01:37:49] POP3< +OK 0 0
[01:37:49] POP3> QUIT
[01:37:50] POP3< +OK Farewell.
There surely must be some way to force the issue and download the mail? The
last successful mail download was 28 November - 25 days ago.
