Assuming it's using libusb, check the output of sane-find-scanner; for 
example:

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x010a [Perfection1640]) 
at libusb:001:004

means it can be found at:

/proc/bus/usb/001/004
