Hello folks, I've recently upgraded from kernel version 2.4.19 to 2.6.12 on my K6 development workstation running up to date Debian sid. Since I've performed the kernel update the system completely freezes during boot while the network comes up (/etc/init.d/network start). I've investigated a bit and discovered that the command ifup eth0 (ifconfig eth0 <IP_ADDRESS>) is the cause of the complete system freeze. The freeze does not return a kernel panic or similar, the console just hangs (I can't switch to other TTYs) and only a full-reset allows me to reboot the system. I never had problems while I was running kernel 2.4, just 2.6 presents this kind of trouble -- My network interface card is a PCI 3Com 905TX (100 MBit/s), I'm using the kernel module 3c59x. I would like to, at this point, if someone has had my same problems and can feedback me some tips on how to solve this problem -- IMHO it has to do with the specific 2.6 kernel series as far as 2.4 works fine. Thanks in advance for feedback. Best regards, I. P.S. I'm currently not subscribed to debian-user@lists.debian.org so please Cc: me on each reply, thanks. -- .''`.
