Ok, I understand what you want, now (I think). There is no way you can make Thunderbird change the way Pine displays things. Pine makes its own decisions about what to do with attachments. It's been about 3 years since I used Pine, so I don't recall whether there is an option in Pine to do what you want. I am certain, however, that you want to change Pine's behavior, not Thunderbird's.
Of course I cannot change Pine's behaviour, but I expect to change Thunderbird behviour: as a matter of fact, as work around I sent my LaTeX source with Pine which "uses MIME's Base64 encoding for all attachments, including text, in order to assure that they are not modified in transit." and my correspond was happy. So my hope is to be able to do the same with Thunderbird. Jerome
