MySQL 4.1

I'd been running MySQL 4.0 on Debian, but need to upgrade to 4.1. What procedure would you recommend? What about supporting PHP / Python / ??? packages

The 4.1 packages appear to be broken as the command
apt-get install mysql-server-4.1 mysql-client-4.1 mysql-common-4.1

Fails with
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  mysql-client-4.1: Depends: mysql-common (>= 4.1.14-6)
Depends: libmysqlclient14 (>= 4.1.14-6) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libdbd-mysql-perl (>= 1.2202) but it is not going to beinstalled Depends: libmysqlclient14 but it is not going to be installed
  mysql-server-4.1: Depends: mysql-common (>= 4.1.14-6)
Depends: libmysqlclient14 but it is not going to be installed
