Please compare /proc/asound/cards with var/lib/alsa/asound.state.
The first line in asound.state should have the name of the card, with
recent ALSA versions:
state.Live
^^^^
/proc/asound/cards shows the card like this:
0 [Live ]: EMU10K1 - SB Live 5.1
^^^^
Make sure that the name is identical, a while ago ALSA switched from
emusomething to live for these sound cards.
