For two systems that are supposedly closely related, there is not a lot in
common between the loaded modules. The hardware detection must be quite
different and there appears to be an entire abstraction layer, unionfs, that
is present in Knoppix but not Debian. In Knoppix, /UNIONFS/ appears to be
the root of the file system and the HDD is accessed as /UNIONFS/dev/hda1/.
On the Debian side, there are many modules that are not included in Knoppix
that sound like important hardware drivers, but are apparently handled in a
more monolithic manner in Knoppix.
