Have a look at the fonts section of your XF86Config-4. Assuming you're
not running a font server, try making it look like this:
    FontPath        "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled"
    FontPath        "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled"
    FontPath        "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled"
any of your other font paths can follow these.
