What about udev?  This package is used to create the device nodes necessary to 
recognise the disk

by the /devices folder, do you mean /dev?  if so see above about udev

There are two stages to this.  One create the device nodes - see udev - Two 
automount them.  Not sure about the latter, but there is an automount 
package.
