Sorry about that. I needed a link to my source directory which is, for
me, /usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.8. So I had to link
/lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/ to that directory and then alsa compiled
happily enough. I think there should be a reminder about the need to
change /lib/modules/2.6.8-2-386/source when you get upgrades. For some
reason that file comes linked to some dev's home directory (where s/he
keeps the source) Dilinger or Horms. Anyway maybe this posting will show
up in a google search the next time it happens and it will save me some
time.
