autofs weirdness, invisible files

So, I have a machine mounted (smbfs) using autofs

If I navigate to a specific folder, and do an ls, there’s nothing there… this holds true of user and root accounts.

If I navigate to other folders on the same mount, everything’s there.

If I navigate to this folder from a windows machine, everything’s there.

Now the kicker, if I run a cp <filename> <dest> from that folder, the file copies just fine… but still, ls shows nothing.

I did a whereis ls to make sure I’m running the real ls, and I am.  I also ran /bin/ls just in case somehow someone managed to goof with whereis and ls (which shouldn’t matter since I don’t have . in my path)

Anyway, I’m stumped… any advice?
