You didn't describe the problem very well, to be honest.  But...

1.  Did you *run* alsaconf, or just install it?

2.  Have you installed the necessary ALSA packages for arts and KDE?

3.  How did you install ALSA and alsaconf?  What packages did you install?

4.  "still no sound while playing vcd under kaffeine."  Is that the
only thing you don't get sound in, or do you have no sound at ALL?

It would help a lot if you would give more details when you ask for help.
