CD-RW not detected at bootup

Running a 2.6.11 custom built kernel. It recognizes the CD Drive at
boot but does not load the ide-scsi module at bootup even when it's
mnentioned in /etc/modules. But if I manually load it, it works fine.
So, right now I have made an alias cdrw="insmod /path/to/ide-scsi" and
type cdrw everytime I need to burn a CD but still I would like it
works automatically. Also, I get a message at bootup that says ide-cd
failed to load whereas ide-scsi loads sucessfully. BOth of them are
compiled fine. What is wrong?
