computer calling out unexpectedly
Hello list,
I'm on dial-up. My computer tonight tried to ring out without being
told to. I have not set anything up for dial-on-demand - or not
deliberately, at least. :) I believe I might have left it connected to
the internet but doing nothing. My ISP kicks you off when you do that -
but my computer seems to have tried to reestablish the connection.
chkrootkit finds nothing, and I can see nothing suspicious in logs -
though I'm not entirely sure where to look.
This is from syslog, at about the right time:
Apr 22 21:40:26 localhost pppd[6471]: LCP terminated by peer

Apr 22 21:40:30 localhost chat[6627]: -- got it
And it rings out again. This has put me on edge somewhat. I have a vague
recollection of somebody posting something similar a few weeks ago, but
I can't find anything googling. I don't have diald installed. How do I
make sure this is nothing dodgy, please? I'm using sarge, upgrading
nightly.
Cheers,
Geoff
