Doesn't the second of those two answer the original question?
However, type "apropos java" at a command prompt. That may mention a
bunch of stuff that may relate to the question you wanted to ask (ie.,
"javac --Version", however that one appears not to work here).
"locate java | less" will also tell you a lot.
