udev/kernel2.6 vs. scanner?
Hi folks,
i had my epson PhotoPerfection2450 working perfectly under kernel
2.4.21 (on a sid/powerpc system). I upgraded to 2.6.10 --
halleluljah, by the way, I love udev -- and now everythign works
except my scanner, which is no longer found by scanimage -L
Far as I can make out, here's the deal:
1. plugin: scanner is recognized by kernel. this scanner has both
firewire and usb interfaces; when I plug in the usb the following
appears in /proc/bus/usb/devices:
T: Bus=04 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=03 Cnt=02 Dev#= 9 Spd=480 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=04b8 ProdID=0112 Rev= 1.01
S: Manufacturer=EPSON
S: Product=EPSON Scanner
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=c0 MxPwr= 2mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=(none)
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 512 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 512 Ivl=0ms
when I try firewire I get this output in dmesg:
scsi5 : SCSI emulation for IEEE-1394 SBP-2 Devices
ieee1394: sbp2: Logged into SBP-2 device
ieee1394: Node 0-00:1023: Max speed [S400] - Max payload [2048]
Vendor: EPSON Model: GT-9700 Rev: 1.04
Type: Processor ANSI SCSI revision: 06
Attached scsi generic sg3 at scsi5, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 3
so clearly it's being seen.
2. getting sane to identify scanner:
sane-find-scanner finds nothing. sudo sane-find-scanner, however,
gives this output (in a bunch of comments:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0112 [EPSON
Scanner]) at libusb:004:009
ok, so it exists... (the scsi device is however not found)
3. trying to scan:
scanimage -L gives nothing. same with sudo. opening xsane or trying
to us gimp also don't work. so what's going on?? looks to me like
I've done everything right, but maybe I'm wrong!
well, it's a quandry. any hints as to where I should look next?
thanks very much,
matt
