Well mailing lists does the same (especially debian categorized mailing
lists) ... except for one thing . Provide a good web interface ...

Not that i dislike : http://www.debian.org/MailingLists/
though if one just want to find out news about latest KDE in debian ,
there is no visual path to the data he seeks.

-> http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2005/04/threads.html ... try it
without any search facilities (only experiencied users make effectives
query).

I know that anybody here for long will know that "sid KDE 3.4", but would
a debian newcomer which don't yet intend to install anything know that sid
is unstable , kde is now at 3.4 ...

Forum are not the way to go , though for example the developper corner is
pretty efficient. A forum won't do better.
It includes faq, references, access to the bts and remains easy to use.

The user section render great on screen though i wonder if any newcomer
think about clicking on support instead of the subsections links in the
menu ...

I really don't think there is a great answer to this problem. I feel it
comes form the fact few of use really use those pages. It looks like a non
trivial task and one of those few of us are really interested in :(

Ciao

PS: i hate forums, i hate ML ... still using a news gateway for heavy
traffic mailing lists !-)
I know no good email clients which would manage my 3 years lkml archive ...
