The speed is way to hight for an AudioCD.
AudioCDs are written in MODE2 which means that there is no error
correction only some checksums.
I would neither read nor write them above speed 4 and fall back to
lower speeds when there still are problems.

Another thing to consider is that dvd/cdrwiters often are better at
reading slighly damaged media than dvd/cdroms. Try to create an image
first using your writer to read it at low speeds. You can check
/var/log/messages to see if there are any readerrors.
Once you have a good iso you can burn it spped 4 or below.
