Edit /etc/apt/sources.list and either remove or comment out the lines
that reference

http://people.debian.org/~fpeters/gnome2.4/./Packages.gz
http://people.debian.org ./ Release
file:///opt/deb/./Packages.gz

and Re-run "apt-get update"

Also, if you'd like, paste the contents of /etc/apt/sources.list and we
can see if there are any invalid entries in it.
