unfortunately it is not always possible to do that (especially when you
are working on some other -paranoïd and linux frightened- people's
machines) :(

also before I found the aforementioned patch, I read some web pages full
of people's experience with the flash-the-bios solution and it seemed
like it worked in some cases, and not in other cases (I don't have the
link unfortunately)
