I have no idea. You need to give us some kind of error message. Compare
the output of lsmod from both kernels. Run some player. What does it
say? What does /proc/asound/cards say for your two kernels?

Run dexconf. It will regenerate the config file from the information
stored in the debconf database (the answers you gave to
dpkg-reconfigure).
