aptitude (or apt-get) install alsa-base alsa-utils alsamixergui
Your kernel should come with an alsa module. Once installed try
#alsaconf
it should find your card and install the appropriate driver for it.
Remember to remove OSS if it's installed. Run the alsamixer in case it's
muted by default.
