RE: VNC server
I do not have a xstartup file in my .vnc folder. Here is what I have in my
.vnc folder:
mi06cluster01:1.log mi06cluster01:4.log passwd
mi06cluster01:1.pid mi06cluster01:4.pid

go to .vnc and edit the xstartup file
change the line to start the gnome-session to a kde
session (not sure what you use to start kde ..). Also
you can configure it to start some terminal by default
or specific geometry, number of color...
