The simple and easy answer for your card is to turn off the
frame buffer, during one of the install screens, it will ask
you if you want frame buffer, answer no to this question and
you should be able to solve your problems.
You can use dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 to get the
questions you need. this comes up every so often and should
be in the archives.
