I had this same problem on one up-to-date sid machine, until I
installed acroread-plugins (but I see you have already installed
that).

I also had this on one NOT up-to-date sid machine, even with
acroread-plugin installed. I upgraded a bunch of packages that
mozilla-firefox depended on, and it then started working just fine. I
don't know which package upgrade did the trick for me but I simply
did:

$ wajig update; wajig install fontconfig psmisc debianutils libatk1.0-0 libc6 libfontconfig1 libfreetype6  libgcc1 libglib2.0-0 libgtk2.0-0 libidl0 libjpeg62 libkrb53 libpango1.0-0 libpng12-0  libstdc++5 xlibs libxft2 mozilla-firefox-gnome-support latex-xft-fonts

(The list of packages came from mozilla-firefox's list of dependencies
as with "wajig detail mozilla-firefox).
