I know were only supposed to be helpful here but I just can't resist to
comment on the subject line:

Debian IS Linux, so your question should rather be referring to the
distribution you consider to be "linux" (I take for granted that asking
such questions you probably didn't run LFS, which would make marginally
more sense to oppose debian with linux), probably Mandrake or SuSE (no
flame war intended)
