I use unstable on my desktop with little or no problems, and Sarge is more than fit for the desktop.Right now it so happens that testing is very mature (since sarge is close to release). This does not mean that testing is 'perfectly' stable always. You might not be having any problems right now, but you can have problems in the future.The easiest way to move to KDE 3 from stable is to move to sarge. To upgrade to sarge simply change all instances of "stable" to "testing" in /etc/apt/sources.list, and do "apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade". You're right, it's my opinion that 'testing' is preferred for the desktop system. I find that's the way most people look at it. It's not an official release, but it's right up there with any other distro you want to compare. <rant> I understand that testing is not "garunteed" in any way to have the level of stability it does now, but if Sarge became 'stable' tommorow and Sid became testing, I would still say that testing is the system I'd use on the desktop :-). It's not always garunteed to be that way, but the way the Debian teams does things I don't see how it couldn't be. Most distros release after putting enough work into the distro to make it on level with testing. I pust testing on par, stability wise, with the other distros (Think Mandrake, Fedora, SuSE, Ubuntu), who do a good job of getting the latest software in and usable quick, but little annoyances and larger bugs pop up everywhere. Unless Debian moved to an every-six-month release cycle, I'll say that testing will always be fit for the desktop, save in an instance where an especially bad snapshot of Sid becomes testing right after a stable release :-).
