Re: X login problems for users

I did:

useradd -d/home/foo -m foo
passwd foo

/etc/init.d/xdm start

same problem for both foo and old users.
same with kdm, including picking another default WM (like flux box or ICEwm)

from user console:
startx jumps to X screen (grey with X cursor) then kicks back out to console says (at the end of long list of messages about Debian modified XFree86) "Waiting for X server to shut down" then back to prompt.

also "cat /home/foo/.xsession-errors" returns
"mkdtemp: private socket dir: Permission denied" from root! what's up with that?

thanks again.

Any help is appreciated.

does it happen for fresh new users too?
