java plugin for mozilla and firefox

hi,
    i downloaded the java pluging 1.5, installation went well. even in
mozilla's local plugin page shows the java plugin installed along with
the other plugins. but whenever i visit any site it says java plugin is
not installed. i have checked in preferences, the java is enabled
there. the same problem is faced in firefox.

using mozilla 0.9
and firefox 1.0.1
