courrier imap problem

Hi Friends ,

   I have using qmail with  courrier imap on Redhat 9.0, our network 
have 120 users ,  when  local  users  connected  my local  mail  server  
the
outlook shows your imap server is not responded , you should wait or 
stop , on server we check process ps -ax | grep imap | wc -l , when
process is increses 40 , the outlook is not connected the server , when 
we kill process  of imap then  again  out look  is connected and download
have any option to increase the process of imap .
Any help will be appreciated .
