In fact a new installation of TBird shouldn't be a lot of work because
it keeps all the filters, newsgroups, accounts, etc. in your
~/.thunderbird folder which is not touched by a new installation. I've
updated and moved thunderbird many times and it always comes up looking
like the last time I used it. But... if I remember correctly it doesn't
keep your spelling dictionaries. So keep a copy of them (if you use
them) or else they're easy enough to reinstall.
