No. It is specific for AMD Athlon systems with more than one CPU. If you
have only one, install 2.6.8-1-k7. If you use a newer Pentium, use -686
instead of -k7. I think if your Pentium uses HT, you should use the
-686-smp kernel. Use apt-cache search kernel-image to find out more
about available kernel packages.

apt-get should be the easiest way. If you use grub, you even don't need
to update the boot loader configuration manually.
