You could try a recent debian-installer nightly build (businesscard or 
netinst, whichever is smaller). The expert mode offers a choice of 
debian branch. I didn't successfully boot a woody system this way, but I 
think the machine in question had a hd controller unsupported by the 
available woody kernels.
