Vanishing USB for printer - udev to blame - also /dev/usblp0 - typo??

All,

Following problems experienced by a colleague in getting CUPS to work
I investigated my own printing problems further. Running testing
and kernel 2.6 he found that the /deb/usblp0 device should probably
be /dev/usb/lp0 - a symlink fixed it for him.

[I don't know if this should be filed as a bug or has been fixed since]

I'm running unstable - updated nightly. I can't print.
Nowhere in my /dev is there a /dev/usb*

In my .dev there _is_ a usb directory

I suspect the change came about with installing hal and udev

Can somebody help me out to recover my lost USB devices / explain
clearly in words of one syllable how to use udev mapping to sort
this out ??

Not normally subscribed to the lists because of volume. In this
instance cc copies will be very welcome.

Many thanks,

Andy
