Hi Lance,
oo.o and staroffice uses XML + zip(not Gnuzip).
unzip -p file content.xml| html2text > file.txt
kinda works for oowriter. oocalc is a bit more compilcated.
if you are an XML wizard, you can do more.
I recall this info from a Linux Journal issue.
