This might be of some use to you, as others have said the ripping and
DVD burning are two different things. I found this in google groups,
which might be useful to you, seems that turning on DMA on his drives
solved his problem.

Others have stated that this works, I know I had a problem once
ripping an ogg off a music DRM ladden CD, verdict is still out, as I
have not had to test the problem since.
Temporary solution was:
rmmod ide-cd
modprobe ide-cd
This should be optimal then using ide-scsi to rip music, if you need
help burning DVD you can look at this page.
