I had the same problem with etherconf.
("apt-get remove --purge")
Did work. I had excluded to enter a broadcast address in the begining. That what threw the package off balence.
It seems as if etherconf is not very tolerable. I'll enter it as a bug, if this is not alread the case.
I don't know if it is release-critical, but I'll sugest it that way (I don't think people would appreciate such a closed-minded etherconf).
