Re: aptitude vs. apt-get
Grrr, sorry Rob about sending you twice this message. Hitting reply on my yahoo gui only adds the
sender and NOT the list. So posting this to the list...

I'll just tell you what happened with me. I used apt for a while, until I was convinced aptitude
had some features I liked. The one that got me hooked was the fact that it removes useless
packages (mostly library pkgs no longer needed) and I liked it. Until one day, trying to update my
system with the "upgrade" command, aptitude started acting weird: wanting to remove most of my
core packages. I was advised to switch to Synaptic. I did, and ever since, I am a very happy
synaptic user.
Once, I wanted to see if running aptitude would yeild any strange fireworks. I ran and "upgrade"
using aptitude (after using synaptic exclusively for a while) and it did remove useless packages.
So my educated guess would be that all three are just interfaces to the same system and switching
between them has no side effects.
But hey, I have only been using Linux for little over a year now. YMMV.
