exim4 and "malformed macro definition"

I was trying to install some numerical computing packages on my Debian Sarge system (2.6.9) using dselect and got this:
Preconfiguring packages ...
2005-01-31 16:35:14 Exim configuration error in line 6 of /var/lib/exim4/config.autogenerated:
  malformed macro definition
Can't send mail: sendmail process failed with error code 1

What is going wrong? Never had this before. And should I worry about the actual installation that seems to have gone well? Full output is given below.

thanks,
->HS
