Interesting that you should bring up Gnome. I am building machines to replace 
,achines curently running nome (1.4 to be exact). I've looked at the
current iteration of both, and I just can't convince myself that the
current version of Gnome is as configurable as I want. Nor does it
seem to have the rich variety of applest that I've come to expect in
1.4

Care to try to convince me I'm missing things?
